I ordered these without hearing or seeing them ever in person because they are designed by Andrew Jones, and he is awesome. I am completely satisfied with this purchase and must admit these speakers are a steal at this price. I like them more than the Polk R and M series, as well as the Sony 6000 series towers that I was considering. These speakers do a great job at the bottum end frequencies and would serve well for a situation where a sub wasn't possible. If your a heavy metal fan the double bass drums sound great through these, crisp and deep without being boomy.

The highs are among the smoothest and beautiful I've heard. Pioneers' 1" "soft dome" tweeters have no harshness the them, and there a pleasure to listen to, especially after the JBL Mylar-Titanium tweets in my car. The cymbols in rock songs have a smooth almost fluid type feeling to them, and with 110 Watts / channel I have not yet been able to coax any harshness out of them.

In my opinion the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - No Way Can They Sound This Good, December 14, 2011

How can speakers this inexpensive sound this good? Sometimes life just isn't fair.

These Pioneer SP-BS41-LR (what a horrible name) were purchased to replace a pair of old Klipsch Kg 1.2 speakers that cost three times as much new. The price on these Pioneers was just too good to pass up, and I wanted something new.

The Pioneers have a very similar sound to the Klipsch speakers. A nicely balanced speaker that leans a bit toward clear clean highs and controlled lows. The big difference with the Pioneers comes in imaging; these speakers have much better defined image than my Klipsch speakers. They sound better farther off axis than the Klipsch. These are pleasant easy to listen to speakers. They sound great at low volume, something a lot of speakers have trouble with. Of course turned way up, they continue to output excellent sound, never sounding strained.

Andrew Jones designed these speakers. Jones worked for KEF and Infinity before joining Pioneer in... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Entry Level Audiophile Speakers, March 25, 2011

Having read the good reviews on these speakers on this and other sites, I decided to order a pair. For me, these speakers had one distinct purpose - to replace a pair of much-loved Wharfedale Diamonds 10.1's in my garage before the Phoenix Summer Heat cooks 'em to death.
Well, having hooked these speakers up and after a 36 hour break-in period I can say that they far exceed my expectations: These speakers are very neutral, transparent, and just the right bit laid-back, but still with a good amount of 'sparkle'.

High's are somewhat rolled off, but that suits me just fine because they're not fatiguing. There's plenty of enjoyable, sparkling high's coming from the soft dome tweeters.
Mids are crystal clear, if somewhat 'nasal' in the upper mid range, maybe a crossover at 3200Hz instead of 2500Hz would have been produced a fuller midband? Not sure, and it's not a big deal, mids sound great overall and I'm nitpicking here.
Bass is pretty darn phenomenal for a... Read more
